In case any of you all have been around my blog since last new year’s–apparently I like “bars”. Last year was a mimosa bar, and this year we went for a waffle bar!  We dressed up and went fancy last year, so we just turned the table and went pajama party this year. Fancy is fun, but pajamas mean I can fall into bed and not worry about getting changed or falling over in heels or flashing someone when I want to sit on the floor.

So, like all bars, your imagination is the only limitation!  And it’s customizable to your tastes!  Here’s the list of what we put out with the waffle bar to bring in 2017:

  • French Vanilla ice cream
  • Chopped nuts (went with sweet/spicy pecans and walnuts)
  • Chocolate Sauce
  • Whipped Cream
  • Local honey
  • Roasted Peanut butter
  • Caramel Sauce
  • Strawberries
  • Chocolate Raspberry Cups
  • Maple syrup
  • Candied orange peel (check out the recipe here!)

I’d love to have different ice creams–like cookies and creme or cookie dough or chocolate peanut butter, but ice cream is kinda annoying to serve since it has to be kept frozen. Also these chocolate raspberry cups were a present from my sister a while back, but I think she got them at an Amish store up in northern NY (think Canada, haha). So I’m not sure if you’ll be able to find them commonly–I don’t think I’ve ever seen them in a regular grocery store. Maybe a specialty chocolate store. But you can always go the regular or mini chocolate chip road!  And feel free to supplement or swap out the fruits. Different people like different things…I’m always a strawberry fan!  And me + my best friend = this ridiculous waffle.  Props to Dorrie for figuring out how to make the smile out of a toothpick!

The best part about bars, is that they lend themselves to being pre-prepped. We did opt to make the waffles after everyone had arrived, but the batter was prepped beforehand, and the only limitation was that I only sliced the strawberries about half an hour before people arrived to prevent them from getting mushy. But something like blueberries or raspberries would solve that problem if you’re going even more low-maintenance!
