To make these healthful vegetarian samosa burritos, swap the traditional potatoes for mashed cauliflower and white beans and load up the filling with mild but flavorful spices, add a few peas for color, and you’ve got yourself an easy, healthful lunch all week!  – – The idea for this recipe actually came from a coworker’s heatable lunch that was a vegetarian samosa burrito.  And that sounded so tasty, I went straight to pinterest and dug up this recipe by Alissa over at Connoisseurus Veg. I will be the first to level with you–this burrito wasn’t quite everything I wanted it to be,…

So my tastes have really changed in the past three years since I graduated college. (Probably even in college, but I ate mostly quesadillas, bacon bits, and Mac and cheese, so it’s not like I’d have known.)  I like mushrooms now. Not really by themselves, but in risotto or in a steak sauce or in SMOG pie, but then again I was sauteeing up some mushrooms the other day and actually enjoyed picking out mushrooms and eating them. So apparently I’m a liar too. But coconut was one of those things I would never touch previously. The texture was funny…

Happy Tyler-and-my-sister’s birthday!  (Yes, they have the same birthday: November 5th!)  I think these doughnuts are Tyler’s favorite thing of all time and it’s been three years since I’ve come into his life with full fattening potential. I like these doughnuts, but honestly if it was me personally, they’d be a touch too much work for something that doesn’t have chocolate.  They’re only too much work because I always think that I can cut up strawberries while they’re baking for the first two minutes.  DON’T DO THAT.  I’ve tried.  It takes way longer to dice up strawberries than you think.…

Here’s the twin to my previously posted recipe, jalapeno cheddar stuffed burgers, though they’d go great with honey mustard pretzel chicken tenders, or a chicken pesto burger.  So many possibilities! But I will say these fries are a wonderful side.  They’re not particularly work-intensive, but give you some fries in your own home.  I will be the first to admit that these are not a replacement for those triple-fried grease bombs that are your normal delicious french fries, but they’re a nice alternative with a tasty spice rub that you can make in your own home. You of course could mix up the spice…

    January 7, 2016bestwithchocolate@gmail.com

Here’s a perfect family-pleaser recipe!  I call it that because it’s a familiar and tasty option, spiced up with a little gourmet twist, but not with ridiculous ingredients.  Chicken tenders, done the normal way, except instead of breadcrumbs, crushed pretzels for extra crunch, and throw in some honey mustard in the eggwash.  That’s really all there is! I like this recipe because you get a little extra crunch for a touch of extra work.  I don’t know if anyone else has this problem but I hate “crushing” things.  Everyone makes it sound so easy–just crush the pretzels, like it’s that…

So let’s go with:  I’m going to whip these out again one day and impress someone.  They look amazing.  They taste even more amazing.  And you can pretend that they’re healthy (they’re not).  I did forget to add that extra drizzle of caramel, but you know, that’s how these things go.   I used McIntosh apples because that’s what I had lying around the house, and I wasn’t able to make the nice rings that the gunny sack described.  Because my apples were softer, I just cut out from the center instead, making sure not to cut through the base.…

I’ve been on a health kick.  Trying not to overeat and trying to make healthier choices.  But foooooood is so yum, it’s hard.  BuI found these baked southwest egg rolls and thought they’d be super tasty!  With some salsa and fresh guacamole on the side, they make for a nice fresh dinner or a perfect appetizer!  I didn’t have black beans, so I just used pinto beans instead.  I imagine it’d be fine either way, just use whatever you prefer or have on hand! If you’re planning to use the egg rolls as appetizers, I would try making them in…

I recently discovered that I don’t mind brussel sprouts.  I honestly had never tried them before last year when I first made this recipe.  To be fair, it was because my mother hates them and obviously never made them for us growing up because she didn’t want to eat them.  So to my young self, since everyone said brussel sprouts were icky, they were obviously icky!  Child logic at work for you. I actually discovered that I liked brussel sprouts at a cooking class.  I use the term “like” loosely here.  I like them for a vegetable — they’re still…
