I’m FREE!  Which is not the appropriate way to think about Whole30, haha.  It’s supposed to be more a lifestyle change and you’re not supposed to binge on all the things you couldn’t have.  But guess what, that’s exactly what I did.  And I won’t lie, I don’t really regret it. For all of you starting Whole30, or in the thick of things, or even just wondering what it’s like, here’s my comprehensive list of food do’s and don’t’s for Whole30 from my first go-around. Favorite breakfast: breakfast nests; This got me through quite a few weekends.  Having a hearty…

If sushi is intimidating to you like it is to me, then try out this easy alternative!  Layers of shrimp, avocado, cucumber, and rice, topped with a savory sriracha mayo makes for an easy at-home sushi substitute! – – If you’re like me, homemade sushi is intimidating. Not because I think the steps are ultimately hard in of themselves, but because it seems like you need so many special ingredients and tools. For me, namely the bamboo mat and the nori (seaweed). Those are two things I don’t typically have on hand, and lucky for me, this recipe by Gina at…

Everyone needs a classic guacamole recipe on hand, and tipsychocochip is here to deliver!  Silky in texture and livened up with red onion, cumin, and tomatoes, here’s a perfect party recipe for when store-bought just won’t cut it! – – You really can’t get much better than a perfectly silky ripe avocado. It’s funny to me as I write this–I used to hate avocados. They seemed pointless to me, tasteless, and a weird texture. But I’ve come to really enjoy their subtle enhancements to dishes I already love. One of the reasons I even gave avocados a chance was cumin.…

A simple salad of chopped avocados, diced tomatoes, and mozzarella pearls, tossed with some seasoning and a balsamic glaze. — I had made this over two years ago I think, and recently rediscovered how much I love this salad!  It’s a perfect classy salad when you want to change up the game, or are feeling particularly uninspired by lettuce.  It’s basically a bite-sized caprese salad, but additionally tossed with some avocado. I also really love the little mozzarella pearls.  They’re about marble-sized, and other than being cute and cutting out a thing that you have to chop, they’re not really…

I hope that a lot of things on my blog look tasty.  But if you’re feeling ambitious, THIS IS THE RECIPE FOR YOU.  Note that with all the different components, it’s not really what I would consider an “easy” recipe.  It’s definitely less stressful if tackled with a kitchen partner, or having made some of the ingredients in advance.  A bunch of components can be made for other recipes earlier in the week, so this can be an awesome clean out the fridge recipe.  Make the juicy lucy burger earlier in the week and save up the bacon jam.  Make a tasty salami…

Blue apron is the second order-by-meal service that I’ve used, the first being hello fresh.  Feel free to revisit the recipe for dijon walnut salmon and couscous for my list of pros/cons on hello fresh.  At some point I will compile a nice list about all the different services, but I’m keeping with the past format for now. Pros As compared to hello fresh, I like the recipes more.  They seem a little more exotic, with an occasional ingredient that I wouldn’t have probably picked up otherwise.  I relish the opportunity to be nudged out of my comfort zone without being overwhelmed by new…
